Rita Lynch is recognised as one of the finest singers currently performing. For her many fans she is the most important figure in contemporary music. Since the release of her first album – ‘Call Me Your Girlfriend’ – Lynch has written some of the most powerful & memorable songs of her time. Albums such as ‘All Dressed Up’, ‘The Only Man’ & ‘Good Advice’ – unparalleled in lyricism, passion & intelligence – have established her compelling & distinctive voice. Lynch’s work is always a matter of fresh interest & reward.

In mid 1980’s Bristol Lynch formed Rita & The Piss Artists playing bass because “it seemed the easiest.” The band’s aggressive lo-fi punk sound was secondary to “getting drunk a lot & creating chaos.” When things inevitably fell apart the next step was the electronic duo God Bless You – originally engaged as a bassist but discovering she could sing after attempting Lou Reed’s ‘Pale Blue Eyes’ which lead to the band dropping the bass & employing twin vocalists. A single ‘Sugar’ was released on the Mirror label.

Rita Lynch’s solo album ‘Call Me Your Girlfriend’ was released to acclaim in 1991. The song ‘Beautiful Eyes’ being used on the soundtrack for the independent film ‘Rosebud’. A tour supporting the album encompassed the UK & Europe after which Lynch finished work on her second album ‘Victim’. The self-explanatory ‘Alive & Unreleased preceded 2000’s ‘All Dressed Up’ which featured ‘Feels Like The End Of The World’, ‘Far Away’ & `Fallen For You’ which were used on the soundtrack of the film ‘Vampire Diary’ as well as a re-recorded version of ‘Beautiful Eyes’.

Her 5th album – ‘The Only Man’ produced by Lynch saw the beginning of a change in style which saw the deletion of instrumental accompaniments, an increasing emphasis on Lynch’s voice & a more direct guitar-based approach. These changes were heightened by the recruitment of John Langley of the Blue Aeroplanes whose powerful drumming provided an added depth & nuance to the live sound & to 2008’s album ‘Good Advice’. At the same time Lynch herself joined the Blue Aeroplanes adding a fourth guitar & backing vocals.

On her most recent album ‘What Am I?’ the minimisation continues as the bass & second guitar are dropped leaving Lynch’s guitar power, throat tearing vocals & the outbreak of John Langley drum frenzy that continues unabated throughout.
