The Trouble With Templeton are a 5 piece alternative rock band from Brisbane in Australia. They are: Thomas Calder (vocals, guitar), Hugh Middleton (lead guitar, BVs), Betty Yeowart (keys, BVs), Sam Pankhurst (bass, BVs) and Ritchie Daniell (drums).

In April 2011 Thomas Calder at age 20, gathered all the gear he could find and recorded a mini-album called “Bleeders” in his Brisbane home. It took all of 2 ½ weeks. Even the most cursory airing of Thomas Calder’s striking debut will leave the listener with no doubt: this boy is special.

Tom released his album independently in November 2011, with more and more loving & positive reactions from all over Australia every day over the year to follow, from fans, press & blogs alike. “I Wrote A Novel” was played on Triple J & community radio nationally early in 2012, with the song reaching #8 on the Australian Independent Radio Chart, Thomas was a finalist in the International Songwiting Competition, his beautiful videos (made by he and his brother Josh Calder) had a huge response from blogs worldwide & National TV play here, and he toured extensively.

In June 2012 the act underwent a spectacular transformation – they became an EPIC, clever, stunningly beautiful 5 piece band. The new, exceptionally talented band members know how to compliment and build on Thomas’ voice and songwriting skills perfectly.

The first single to showcase the band’s new sound was “Six Months In A Cast”, released in Australia in September 2012, ITunes Single of the Week in Aus & NZ, #11 Triple J Airplay, #4 on Independent Radio Chart.

The band have played (and was a highlight of) Big Sound in Brisbane, they headlined the exclusive Communion Music Night in Melbourne, played Harvest Festival (Grizzly Bear, Sigur Ros & Beck) & legendary Falls Festival, VIC (Flaming Lips, Hot Chip), and have toured with some of Australia’s finest acts (Julia Stone, Sparkadia, Husky, Matt Corby) and some big international artists as well (Of Monsters And Men, Father John Misty, Ben Leftwich, Pinback).

In October 2012 Thomas travelled solo to the US and played 18 shows & showcases in 21 days to enraptured, full rooms, for Filter Magazine’s “Culture Collide” Festival in LA (see Filter review below) and CMJ in NY. He released an EP in the US in September called "I Wrote A Novel", which was #18 most added at College Radio, Top 20 chart at 12 stations, and had national college radio play across the US.

In December 2012 The Trouble With Templeton were announced as one of Triple J’s “Next Crop” artists for 2013, then earlier this year the album “Bleeders” was on the long list for the AMP, Thomas Calder won the prestigious and highly competitive APRA PDA Songwriting Award, and he also recently came 3rd in the International Songwriting Competition`s Rock Category for "Six Months..."

In March this year the band travelled to the US for SxSW, Canadian Music Week and shows in LA and NY, with incredible results. They are thrilled to announce a few more team members have now come on board! Frank Riley & Al Marano at High Road Touring in the US (Ryan Adams, Wilco, Feist, Portishead) and Adam Countryman from The Agency Group (Half Moon Run, Hey Rosetta) is booking the band in Canada.
