englisch
Gordon Reeves is a world traveller, who loves to come home with some dirt on his boots and music on his mind. With his rough voice and his simple guitar playing he produces well crafted earthy songs that would probably be best at home in the singer songwriter genre. Gordon was born in North Dublin, Ireland in 1977. He was to become the fourth of seven children, so as you can imagine this was a busy house. Gordon himself is an incredibly honest and warm person and this is reflected in his songs. Although he probably prefers his own company to bigger crowds and as a boy he was always considered a very shy and introverted child. Always looking for somewhere quiet, Gordon would climb up into the attic of his parents house, where he could be alone with his thoughts and get away from the noise of a busy working class home. Up in the solitude of the attic he found an old guitar of his older brother who had no use for it anymore. So Gordon tied fishing line on for strings, and it was ready to be played, well not played exactly but it would make some noise. In his early teens he joined some friends who played electric guitar and some rubbish bins for drums in a punk band called “pigs in space”. Gordon never played guitar, they had four guitar players. So he was the singer although screamer would have been a more suitable title. “But really I was getting more feeling from the music my father and brothers were listening to, from Irish ballads to the Beatles and Bob Marley. I started to write songs for myself but never played them to anyone. All my friends listened to metal and punk so I kept my songs to myself.” After finishing school and horticultural school Gordon worked in a city centre park. But “a lot of girls from the hairdressers across the road would spend their lunch in the park and I found them much more interesting than the old men who worked with me. I asked one of the girls, if she could get me a job in the hairdressers and she did the following Saturday.” From there Gordon worked hard and quickly made a name for himself. Eventually he got to work at fashion shows, photo shoots etc. Although very successful and enjoyable Gordon decided it was not for him and time to move on. From there Gordon travelled to Australia to visit his brother who had left Ireland to start a new life with his Australian wife in Queensland, Australia. After a few weeks Gordon left for Sydney. He moved into a big house on Bondi Beach full of travellers along with some colourful locals. Intending to stay a few weeks the weeks turned into months and then months into years. Eventually after travelling and working through Australia and New Zealand Gordon returned to Bondi. All this time Gordon was writing songs about his experiences and travels. In the summer of 2004 Frank Scheller a German musician was living in Bondi. One evening walking home when he noticed a small crowd gathered on a balcony close to the beach. On the balcony playing with his back to the crowd was Gordon Reeves. Impressed with what he heard Frank invited him to record some songs in his studio. After a little persuasion Gordon travelled to Germany and recorded his first album “Live from the living room”. Gordon now lives and travels between Ireland and Germany. In April 2008 he signed to the German record label Tonetoaster and is currently about to release his new album THE RISING TIDE in March 2009.
